The Columbus-based pop/rock outfit known as The Stepford Five will try to win over Dayton audiences on Thursday, April 5, when it plays the Trolley Stop with Dayton's own singer/songwriter Rhonda Everitt and her band, Rhe.
TS5 formed in 1999 while its members were students at Bowling Green State University, and it is one of a number of Columbus bands, such as Templeton, that are redefining slick rock polish. The group's guitar-songs reveal a lot of energy and creativity lurking beneath a pretty exterior.
The Stepford Five's latest release, Mesh, captures the group's radio-friendly pop/rock sound; Pretty Mighty Mighty's Jon Chinn and Neal Schmitt engineered the album. Mesh highlights the range of vocalist Keith Jenkins and the overall musicianship of guitarist/keyboardist Jason Dziak, bassist Tim Minneci and drummer Mark Kovitya. Currently, TS5 is recording its second album at Workbook Studios in Columbus.
